About the speaker?

Until September 2020, Maurice Radebe served as Executive Vice President: Energy and Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) at Sasol Ltd and was responsible for Sasol’s Energy Business globally. He was accountable for the successful marketing of all the Energy Business’ products as well as managing the gas-to-liquids (GTL) joint ventures in Qatar (ORYX GTL) and Nigeria (EGTL), the gas-to-power (GTP) venture in Mozambique. Maurice was also responsible for Sasol’s SHE functions in support of sustainable business practices. In addition, he was accountable for the design of systems, processes and capacity to ensure and assure adherence by all entities to applicable group requirements with respect to SHE.
Maurice joined Sasol Oil (now part of the Energy Business) in January 2004 when Sasol Oil purchased Exel Petroleum. He was appointed Managing Director: Fuels Marketing at Sasol Oil, responsible for all liquid fuel products through retail and wholesale channels. He served as Managing Director of Sasol Oil from December 2006 to October 2010. He was appointed to Sasol’s Group Executive Committee on 1 November 2010 and was responsible for global Corporate Affairs, Government Relations and Enterprise Development.
Maurice obtained a Bachelor of Science degree (Applied Mathematics and Physics)) from the University of the North (now known as the University of Limpopo). In 1991, he attended the Management Advancement Programme (MAP) at Wits Business School (WBS) and in 1997 obtained a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the same business school. He also attended the General Management Programme at Harvard Business School in Boston, United States, in 2007.
He was appointed as an Executive in Residence a WBS in January 2013. Since then, he has worked with the various Heads of schools to provide tangible business experience to the learning environment, emphasising the energy industry. To this end, he facilitated regular seminars dealing with energy-related topics. In addition, he was instrumental in developing the African Energy Leadership Centre (AELC) at WBS, culminating in the postgraduate Energy Leadership programmes currently on offer at the school.
Maurice is deeply committed to the socio-economic transformation of South Africa and the role that education can play in achieving it. He is also passionate about leadership and gender equality and invests his time and resources in mentoring and supporting young people.
He was appointed Director and Head of School at WBS in January 2021.
